Jordan Creek Trail is the main spine of the West Des Moines trail system and generally runs east/west through the City, linking houses and apartments to schools and recreational amenities. The trail begins west at the headwaters of Jordan Creek near Valley View Park and follows the creek for most of its route. At times, the trail winds closer to active railroad tracks and briefly through woodlands before returning to its suburban environs. At Grand Avenue, the trail leaves EP True Parkway and continues south along Grand Avenue where it eventually reconnects to Jordan Creek. A short stretch southeast of Fuller Road leads trail users to Raccoon River Park, just beyond a railroad crossing. The trail continues northeast from Raccoon River Park along the railroad tracks and Lincoln Avenue to its ultimate terminus at SW 63rd Street/State Route 28. A number of connecting trails meet up with the Jordan Creek Trail at various points along its route.
