Named in recognition of pioneers who settled Grundy County in the 1850s, the Pioneer Trail is another example of Iowa’s rich heritage. Interspersed throughout the trail are four segments of the Grundy County Greenbelt, providing necessary habitat for a variety of animal and bird life, as well as native prairie vegetation. This habitat has remained virtually intact over the years due to its proximity to the railbed. The Black Hawk Creek Wildlife Area, a quarter mile journey north of Morrison on County Road T53, offers visitors two self-guided nature trail with over 100 labeled plants and a swinging suspension bridge.
